MOMMIALLA<\/h3>\n

The small hamlet of Mommialla comes back to light<\/h5>\n

The historic village of Mommialla, which arose near some thermal water<\/strong> outcrops, has been known since before the year 1,000, when it is mentioned under the name Mumianula<\/em> in a deed of agricultural grant from the bishop of Volterra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traces of it can be found in maps drawn by Leonardo da Vinci, it lived off the traffic of the Via del Sale<\/strong> and its thermal waters but during the twentieth century it was abandoned, a victim of marauders and looters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently most of the buildings have been recovered, as has the small Church of San Frediano<\/strong> of which the first records appear in 1258.<\/span><\/p>\n
