San Miniato, known as one of Italy’s truffle capitals<\/strong>, is a medieval town perched on three small hills between Florence and Pisa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its highest point is the Fortress of Frederick II<\/strong>, built around 1220 and famous not only for having been the prison of Pier delle Vigne-a writer and politician close to the Swabian emperor and later killed on the infamous treason conviction-but also for its irreverent profile, which almost seems to make horns.<\/span><\/p>\n

From here there are unparalleled views of the surrounding countryside<\/strong>, while the village offers fascinating glimpses: don’t miss a visit to the 13th-century cathedral-with its fa\u00e7ade on which the constellations of Ursa Major and Minor can be recognized-and a stroll through the beautiful Seminary Square<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good opportunity to stop in San Miniato and stop by its stores is at the end of November, during the annual White Truffle Market Exhibition<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
