Built in 1940, it is the religious centre of Gambassi Terme<\/em><\/h2>\n

Who comes from <\/span>Castelfiorentino<\/a> lthe Strada Volterrana and pilgrims arriving in the village on foot following the <\/span>Via Francigena<\/a>, meets it on the right. The bulk of the <\/span>Chiesa di Cristo Re<\/strong> <\/span>imposes itself at the gates of the village and turns its back on the magnificent panorama of the Val d’Elsa.<\/p>\n

Built in 1940, it is now the religious centre of the town.<\/p>\n

Inside, several 16th and 17th century paintings are preserved on the walls. Among them, the <\/span>Saint Sebastian between two saints<\/em> <\/span>of <\/span>Baccio Gorini<\/strong>. In the 16th century, this semi-unknown Florentine painter made his fortune in Sardinia thanks to a narrative vein of simple but sincere devotion. <\/p>\n

On the counter fa\u00e7ade, note two paintings from the ancient Church of San Jacopo:<\/p>\n

the Virgin and Child Enthroned between Saints John, Francis, Matthew and Jacopo<\/em>, attributed to Pier Francesco Fiorentino<\/a>, a painter who trained with Benozzo Gozzoli and collaborated with Ghirlandaio;<\/p>\n

the Madonna between Saints John the Baptist and Jerome<\/em> by Biagio di Antonio<\/a>, a Florentine painter, whose contribution to the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel between 1481 and 1482 is remembered.<\/p>\n
